WOW Ofsted activity ideas for your Montessori setting

One of the four categories covered in an Ofsted inspection is the quality of education. As we recently faced an Ofsted inspection in one of our Montessori nursery settings, we would like to share our ideas for you to achieve the grade ‘OUTSTANDING’.

Ofsted will be looking to see that your environment is highly stimulating, that children are extremely motivated and eager to join in with activities.

Inspectors will particularly consider the intent, implementation, and impact of the curriculum.

  1. Intent: providers must have a firm understanding of what they want children to learn. This is down to the individual provider – settings/schools can decide themselves what they want children to learn and develop.
  2. Implementation: this must be embedded in a way that ensures children make progress in the seven areas of learning, consistently across the curriculum. Teaching is designed to help children remember what they have been taught in the long-term.
  3. Impact: what children have learnt will be demonstrated through their work, play and levels of concentration. They have the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in school.

As we are a Montessori setting, we created a lot of activities around the Montessori materials from the prepared environment. Children enjoyed adding different texture to create playdough, they loved the new story sets/sacks from the book corner, the volcano experiment, the construction area with the shaving foam and the sponge bricks were their favourite.  We also prepared a lot of dancing/music activities, tuff trays and art and craft.

Find below some pictures of the tuff-trays activities that we set it up for the Ofsted Inspection:
