The aim of this qualification is to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding of babies and young children from birth to seven years of age. The content meets the Department for Education’s (DfE) full and relevant criteria for a Level 2 Early Years Practitioner in the workforce.

What will I study on the course?

The TQUK Level 2 Early Year Practitioner is made up of several themes which develop the practitioner’s knowledge, skills and behaviours. Undertaking this course will develop the practitioner’s ability to reflect and understand the underpinning policies, procedures and theories in early years practice to become a competent and professional Level 2 practitioner.

  • Roles & Responsibilities of an Early Years Practitioner 
  • Communication with Children in Early Years
  • Supporting Activities and Promoting Play
  • Safeguarding in Childcare
  • Child Development
  • Supporting Children with Additional Needs
  • Working in Partnership

Work Placement

You will need to be working or volunteering in a school or early years setting for at least eight hours a week throughout the duration of the course.

Entry Requirements

You will need to be working or volunteering in an early years’ setting. You will need a letter from your placement to confirm this. No minimum entry requirements, but you must have a good standard of spoken and written English and we will assess your English and Maths at the interview. You will need to have an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check prior to beginning the course to ensure you are eligible to work with children and young people.

How will I be assessed?

You will build a portfolio of evidence which will be assessed by your assessor using a range of methods, including:

  • direct observation in your placement school
  • coursework ranging from assignments to reflective journals

How will I study?

You will have monthly teaching sessions with your development coach which will include face to face, and online.

There is no set start date - you can enrol throughout the year and can complete within 12 months.

Career Progression

This qualification allows progression on to the Level 3 Early Years Practitioner qualifications and other relevant Level 3 qualifications relating to early years and child care.
