The Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator) develops learners knowledge, skills and behaviours to work with children from birth to seven years. The content meets the Department of Education (DFE) full and relevant criteria to enter the workforce as a L3 Early Years Educator.

What will I study on the course?

The TQUK Level 3 Early Years Educator Diploma is made up of several themes which develop the practitioner’s knowledge, skills and behaviours. Undertaking this course will develop the ability to reflect and understand the underpinning policies, procedures and theories in early years practice to become a competent and professional Level 3 Early Years Educator.

Work Placement

Placements are required for the achievement of this qualification. A minimum of 650 placement hours is required.

How will I be assessed?

The qualification is assessed by internally set and marked assessments subject to external quality assurance. Portfolio evidence must include observation of learner performance in real work situations and all learning outcomes which assess knowledge and understanding may be assessed through, for example, internally set and marked written assignments, tasks, records of oral or written questions, work books or other portfolio evidence. Achievement of the qualification also includes demonstration of practical skills and confirmation of workplace competence.

To gain this qualification the learner will need to:

• Pass all units

• Show competence in a real work environment through observation by our development coach

Entry requirements

Learners must either be employed or volunteering in an early years setting, working with children within the 0-5 years age bracket. If you are a volunteer then this must be set up before you start the course. We will need to see a letter from the placement at interview.

From 3 April 2017, the requirement for Level 3 Early Years Educators (EYE) to hold GCSE English and maths A*-C, will be broadened to Level 2 qualifications, including Functional Skills. This will enable staff with an EYE qualification and Level 2 English and mathematics qualifications to count in the Level 3 staff: child ratios in childcare settings.

Proof of a current DBS must be shown.

There is no set start date - you can enrol throughout the year and can complete within 12 months

Career Progression

The level 3 EYE Diploma enables progression to the TQUK Level 5 Diploma for Senior Practitioners in an Early Years Setting (RQF) or other higher level early years qualifications.
