The Level 3 Diploma prepares learners to become Early Years Educators alongside developing their Montessori practice, enabling them to gain knowledge and work with children from birth to seven years, while applying Montessori theory of learning. Upon achievement of this qualification, it is intended that learners will be able to enter the workforce as Early Years Educators and Montessori Teachers. The Montessori Diploma is integrated into our Early Years Level 3 and is designed for anyone who wants to work as a qualified Montessori Teacher.

What will I study on the course?

The TQUK Level 3 Early Years Educator Diploma is made up of several themes which develop the practitioner’s knowledge, skills and behaviours. With the guidance of an experience Development Coach and Montessori Teacher. The practitioner’s will develop their ability to reflect and understand the underpinning policies, procedures and theories in early years practice to become a qualified Level 3 Early Years Educator and Montessori Teacher.

Montessori Diploma

Alongside your L3 EYE you will learn the Montessori methods, you will have dedicated teachers who will support you through the Montessori philosophy and Montessori areas of learning.

Six units of study:

  • Understanding the Montessori Method
  • Practical life
  • Sensorial
  • Mathematics
  • Language
  • Cultural

There are various assignments for each module and throughout the course. Assignments within the programme vary in style:

  • Online tests
  • Written assignments

Each unit will be marked by your dedicated mentor. During your study, you will need to attend a 10 day Apparatus Workshop in our Training Centre. A Montessori expert will demonstrate how to present the Montessori Materials, giving you a hand-on study experience to further your knowledge. See below regarding details.

Apparatus Workshop

At the apparatus workshop, you will be guided by Montessori specialist trainers where you gain hands-on experience with the Montessori materials.

As part of your studies for the Montessori Diploma, you will be required to attend the 10-day (remote & face-to-face) Apparatus Workshop in our state-of-the-art training centre in Watford.

Students enrolled on the Montessori Diploma will have a practical and written examination on the 10th day.

Work Placement

Placements are required for the achievement of this qualification. A minimum of 650 placement hours is required.

How will I be assessed?

The qualification is assessed by internally set and marked assessments subject to external quality assurance. Portfolio evidence must include observation of learner performance in real work situations and all learning outcomes which assess knowledge and understanding may be assessed through, for example, internally set and marked written assignments, tasks, records of oral or written questions, work books or other portfolio evidence. Achievement of the qualification also includes demonstration of practical skills and confirmation of workplace competence.

To gain this qualification the learner will need to:

• Pass all units

• Show competence in a real work environment through observation by our development coach

Entry requirements

Learners must either be employed or volunteering in an early years setting, working with children within the 0-5 years age bracket.

  • If you are a volunteer then this must be set up before you start the course.
  • We will need to see a letter from the placement at interview.
  • From 3 April 2017, the requirement for Level 3 Early Years Educators (EYE) to hold GCSE English and maths A*-C, will be broadened to Level 2 qualifications, including Functional Skills. This will enable staff with an EYE qualification and Level 2 English and mathematics qualifications to count in the Level 3 staff: child ratios in childcare settings.
  • Proof of a current DBS must be shown.
  • Aged 18 or over
  • If English is not your first language, you should be able to demonstrate competency at level B2 of the Common European Framework (CEF) proficiency levels

How will I study?

You will have a portfolio on our eLearning platform, Bud, to access your assessments. You will also have monthly teaching sessions with your development coach to support your L3 which will be a combination of online and face to face sessions at your work place. Alongside, you will also have your Montessori Teacher who will support Montessori learning and you will need to attend the practical Apparatus Workshop in our acclaimed Training Centre.

There is no set start date - you can enrol throughout the year and can complete within 12 months

Career Progression

The level 3 EYE Diploma enables progression to the Level 5 or other higher level early years qualifications.

MAA graduates have the knowledge and skills needed by the Montessori community; employability and work-based learning is a key aspect of the training. The Montessori Diploma course is a CPD Accredited qualification awarded by Montessori Apprentice Academy and approved by CPD. Qualified practitioners are considered Montessori-qualified Teachers.
