The Level 2 Early Years Practitioner Apprenticeship programme develops the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to work in a childcare setting under the supervision of a qualified Early Years Educator. Suitable for Nursery and childminding assistants.

  • Certification: Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner (TQUK), Level 2 Early Years Practitioner Apprenticeship Standard, Level 1 & upskill to level 2 Functional Skills in English and Maths
  • Cost per apprenticeship: Non-levy employer contribution (5%) - £200 paid by Employer, or Private payment: £4,000

What are the entry requirements?

  • In paid employment (Working for a minimum of 16 hours per week)
  • Live in the UK or EEA/EU for the last 3+years (With a valid form of ID)
  • Not be using any other government funding (College, University or online training courses)
  • Apprentices without level 1 English and maths will need to achieve this level and apprentices without level 2 English and Maths will need to take the tests for this level prior to taking the end-point Assessment.
  • For those with an education, health and care plan or a legacy statement, the apprenticeship’s English and Maths minimum requirement is Entry Level 3.
  • Be able to commit to the full course duration and meet the programme modules through your job role

How will I study?

Over the duration of 15 months, you will receive a combination of face-to-face and online training and support. You will be required to complete your apprenticeship employed at a Nursery as an apprentice. This also includes off the job training.
  • Your Online learning
You will be able to access to your e-portfolio on BUD where you will find your assessment plans, resources and see your progress to develop your personal skills and practice 24/7.
  • Your Ongoing Support
As an Apprentice, you will be working alongside qualified staff in your early years setting and you will have a dedicated Development Coach who will complete monthly teaching sessions via online and visit you in your nursery providing teaching and learning, assessing your work and providing feedback on your progress and vital guidance on how you can improve.
  • Off-the-Job Training
As part of the apprenticeship, you will be required to complete off the job training to develop your knowledge, skills, behaviours in your job role. Off-the-Job training can include training that is delivered at the apprentice’s normal place of work but must not be delivered as part of their normal working duties. Including; online teaching, workplace assessment, digital learning resources and one-on-one tuition. If you are working 30 hours a week contract, off the job is requirement is 6 hours a week, if you are on a part time contract to a minimum of 16 hours a week you will be required to complete off the hours you work as off the job training.
  • Independent Learning
Your Development Coach will guide you and will use a range of assessment methods to gather evidence of your developing skills, knowledge and behaviours including; face to face observations, employer observations, assignment work, independent study and research, case studies, videos, professional discussions and question and answers.

What will I study?

The Early Years Practitioner Level 2 Apprenticeship is made up of several themes which develop the practitioner’s knowledge, skills and behaviour. Undertaking this apprenticeship will develop the practitioner’s ability to reflect and understand the underpinning policies, procedures and theories in early years practice to become a competent and professional Level 2 practitioner. The programme is spread across 15 months and covers 12 units across 9 themes:
  • Health, Safety & Wellbeing of Children
  • Roles & Responsibilities of an Early years Educator
  • Communication with Children in Early Years

How do I apply for funding?

This apprenticeship costs £4,000 and is funded by both the employer and the government. The government will pay 95% (£3,800) of the cost. The remaining 5% (£200) will be paid at the start of the apprenticeship. To see if you qualify, click here.
