4 ways to Improve the Performance of Staff in Montessori Childcare Settings 2022

A successful, renowned and profitable Montessori nursery is what all nursery owners strive for when setting their business goals.

“A business is only as good as it’s people” – Kathryn Minshew

The people you employ within your nursery are the most important asset in achieving your business goals. Here are 4 ways you can follow to improve the staff performance of your Montessori setting and achieve your business goals in 2022:

Observe their performance and share feedback

Review your staff’s performances while they are in action and see if they are doing it correctly. Are they demonstrating the practical shelf correctly? How do they speak to the children? How do they handle an overly anxious parent? Note their strengths and weaknesses and share your feedback immediately. Follow this exercise regularly and provide pointers on how to improve their practice.
This will benefit both – the employee and your setting.

Celebrate their achievements

If an employee completes their level 3, your team receives outstanding parent feedback or your nursery aims to achieve 90% occupancy this term and achieves it, ensure you recognise this effort and celebrate it by treating the team or team member. This could be through verbal recognition within your staff meetings or an incentive scheme such as vouchers to their favourite restaurant or online shop.

Encourage open communication

Acknowledge that your employees’ views are important. When you create an environment where managers clearly know the company values communication and employees feel comfortable speaking up, they will feel like more than just a cog in the machine. Your employees are right on the front line of your child and parent service, so they are always the first to notice the future needs and demands of your children and parents. When you take the time and energy to gather their thoughts and observations, you increase your nursery’s chances of staying agile and innovative.

Invest in further training

It is good practice that educators attend refresher training in Montessori or additional training when required to ensure the setting is operating as a true Montessori nursery. Training your employees can increase their efficiency and productivity in completing their daily work tasks. It can also help your setting achieve greater consistency in process adherence, making it easier to project outcomes and meet business goals and targets. Plus, with happy, qualified staff who are up to date with industry-standard best practices you will be giving your competitors a run for their money!
